Close the bag with the paperclip immediately after misting.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Mushrooms<\/h2>\n<p>If the conditions are favorable, the first little mushrooms (the pins) should appear between 5 and 16 days. This is also determined by the strain. Some cubensis strains mature at a slower rate than others.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Flushes<\/h2>\n<p>The mushrooms appear in clusters. This group can be tiny or large. That is determined by the strain. A flush is a type of growth like this. Mushrooms virtually seldom ripen all at once. A kit can provide more than one flush. The first two flushes are the most significant. More flushes will follow, each one smaller than the last.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Picking<\/h2>\n<p>When the veil between the hat and the stem has barely torn, the mushrooms are ripe and ready to be plucked. Don\u2019t put it off any longer. Put on surgical gloves or clean your hands, wrists, and arms. Pick only the ripe mushrooms and leave the others to develop.<\/p>\n<p>Remove the mushrooms from the cake by grasping the base of each mushroom with your thumb and index finger. Slowly rotate your hand clockwise until the mushroom lets go. Do not remove the mushrooms. This would endanger the mycelium and possibly kill it. Pick the tiny mushrooms and pins once you\u2019ve picked the majority of the larger mushrooms.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Mushrooms that grow from the sides<\/h2>\n<p>Mushrooms grow where the light reaches and where there is little penetrating resistance. Because the cake has light shining on the sides, the mushrooms might also grow there.<\/p>\n<p>It is hard to counter this and can be allowed. Some growers wrap the sides of the grow box in aluminum foil to keep the sides dark, but this doesn\u2019t always work well. When mushrooms grow there, they can be picked just before you soak the kit:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Clean hands! Take the grow box out of the bag and place it upside down on your other hand.<\/li>\n<li>Wiggle the plastic box so that the cake will fall out, onto your hand. The plastic box can be placed on a disinfectant surface.<\/li>\n<li>Now you have this hand free to pick the mushrooms from the sides of the cake.<\/li>\n<li>When all mushrooms are picked, you can place the cake back as it was, in the plastic box and continue to the soaking process.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Soaking<\/h2>\n<p>After all the mushrooms have been picked, you prepare the kit for the next flush.<\/p>\n<p>Again, with disinfected hands or gloves; take the grow box out of the grow bag. Fill the box with fresh, potable water. Take the lid out of the ziploc bag and use it to close the grow box. Place the closed grow box in a soaking Bag or use your own clean plastic shopping bag and wrap it around the box. Close it well and place this in a refrigerator (2\u00b0C to 8\u00b0C) for 12 hours.<\/p>\n<p>This is called the soaking process. Water will now soak through the cake, preparing it for the next flush.<\/p>\n<p>During the soaking you can hang the grow bag with micronfilter upside down to dry. Make sure to hang it upside down, so no microorganisms will access the bag. Many growers prefer to use new and unused grow bags\u00a0after every flush. After 12 hours take the soaking Bag with the grow box, out from the fridge and unpack it.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Next Flush<\/h2>\n<p>To proceed, repeat steps 3 through 7 as you did when you originally started the process. A new flush will occur a few days later. A Psilocybe cubensis Magic mushroom grow kit will yield at least two or three flushes. If you have cultivating experience, you can get more flushes out of a kit.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The end<\/h2>\n<p>When no additional mushrooms grow out of a grow kit for at least three weeks following the second flush, or when the Psilocybe cubensis Magic Mushroom grow kit turns green, red, grey, or yellow, the grow kit can be discarded.<\/p>\n<p>The color shift indicates that the grow kit has been infected with another fungus or bacteria. The Psilocybe cubensis Magic mushroom grow kit will no longer produce mushrooms, and the grow kit should be discarded outside in the garbage.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Spores<\/h2>\n<p>When you pluck the mushrooms too late, they will drop their spores. Because of the spores, the cake and mushrooms will turn black\/purple (some other cubensis strains will turn red\/brown).<\/p>\n<p>This isn\u2019t a big deal; it just doesn\u2019t look very nice. When mushrooms release their spores, they begin to deteriorate and the active chemicals disintegrate.
